Bexleyheath Academy teacher Stuart Kerner guilty of pupil affair

A married religious studies teacher has been found guilty of having an affair with a student in south-east London.

Stuart Kerner, 44, of Russett Close, Aylesford had sex with the girl, then 15, at Bexleyheath Academy during an 18-month affair.

At Inner London Crown Court he was found guilty on two counts of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust.

He was bailed until sentencing which is due to take place on 14 January.

Schoolgirl crush

Kerner was cleared on four counts of the same offence, as well as two counts of sexual activity with a child.

During the case jurors were told what started out as a schoolgirl crush turned into an affair which was discovered in 2013.

It was said Kerner took the girl's virginity on a yoga mat in an empty room at Bexleyheath Academy the same week his wife miscarried their second child.

Judge Joanna Greenberg QC warned him that all sentencing options remained open.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is a former student of the school.
