Man dies after Ilford street stabbing

A man in his late 50s has died after being stabbed in a street in north-east London.

He was found in Richmond Road, Ilford, after officers were called to reports of an assault at about 03:30 GMT.

He was taken to an east London hospital where he died just before 08:00 GMT.

A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, and later re-arrested on suspicion of murder. He is being held at an east London police station.

The victim has not been formally identified and officers said his next-of-kin were yet to be informed.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Det Ch Insp Russell Taylor said: "We know that a number of people were at a party at a nearby address and it is possible that they saw something of importance.

"We are particularly keen to speak with anyone who attended that event who is yet to come forward."
