Teenager raped at Manchester student halls

A teenager has been raped in student accommodation in Manchester.

Police said the 19-year-old woman was attacked between 0500 and 0600 BST on Monday at the halls on Lower Park Road in Rusholme.

Detectives are linking it to another attack on a student at a complex an hour earlier.

A man went into a woman's room at Oxford Place, punched her and stole cigarettes. Anyone with information is urged to call police.

Supt Stuart Barton, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This young woman has been traumatised by her ordeal.

"Incidents like this are extremely rare, but we are clearly very concerned and we are doing all we can to find the offender.

"We are following a number of lines of inquiry, but we still need the public's help and any information you hold could prove vital to our investigation."
