Police are investigating the rape of a 41-year-old woman in north Manchester.

The woman was walking on Rochdale Road near its junction with Collyhurst Street in Collyhurst last Sunday when she was grabbed by the arm.

A man then dragged her down some steps leading to a path on Sandhills Playing Fields and raped her.

Detectives believe the attacker is about 6ft 1in, possibly Asian and was wearing dark clothing. Anyone with information is urged to contact them.

Greater Manchester Police said the attack happened at about 2330 BST on 1 August but was only reported five days later.

Det Insp Chris Allsop said: "It has been a very traumatic experience for the victim, but she has found the courage to report this to the police.

"We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time who may have information that can help us.

"Since we became aware of the incident we have carried out very thorough inquiries and trained officers have been fully supporting the victim.

"The public can rest assured that we have officers on the ground supporting our investigation, who are also on hand to address any concerns they may have."
