Elderly man dies after fight at Stalybridge pub
A 70-year-old man has died after a fight at a pub in Greater Manchester.
Police were called to The Sportsman in Mottram Road, Stalybridge, at 2150 BST on Saturday, after reports of a disturbance.
The man, who had been involved in the fight, collapsed outside. He was taken to hospital but died soon afterwards, a police spokesman said.
A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody.
Det Sgt Claire Brennan said: "Our investigation is at a very early stage so it would not be appropriate to speculate about what happened.
"We want to build up a picture of the events that led up to this fight, so I would appeal to anyone who was either at the pub and then left before police arrived, or anyone with any information, to come forward.
"At this time, our thoughts are with the family of the man who died so if anyone does know something, please call us."
