Man killed when hit by lorry on M66 near Bury

A 30-year-old man was killed when he was struck by a lorry on a motorway in Greater Manchester, police have said.

The pedestrian was struck on the southbound carriageway of the M66, between junctions one and two, near Bury, at 2015 BST on Monday.

Police said he suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the lorry, which was towing a tanker, suffered shock and was taken to hospital.

The southbound carriageway was closed for investigation work but has been reopened.
