Man, 24, injured in drive-by shooting in Wythenshawe

A 24-year-old man has been shot in a drive-by shooting in Greater Manchester.

The man was shot in the thigh in Cotefield Road, Wythenshawe, at about 2145 BST on Monday. Police believe the gunman was in a black four-door car.

The victim is recovering in hospital but his injury is not life-threatening, a police spokesman said.

It comes after Kevin Bond, 30, was shot in the stomach at a petrol station in nearby Rowlands Way, on 19 September.

'Open mind'

Det Supt Mary Doyle, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "I want to reassure everyone that this incident will be thoroughly investigated and that we are already following up a number of inquiries.

"I can understand that this type of incident is very worrying, but I can assure the people of Wythenshawe that we are treating this extremely seriously.

"The investigation is at an extremely early stage and we are keeping an open mind about any possible motives."

She appealed to anyone with information to contact Greater Manchester Police.

Officers have stepped up patrols in the area.
