Two 18-year-olds who were raped in south Manchester could have been attacked by the same man, police say.
Detectives are linking an attack which happened on Atwood Road, Withington, on 24 September with an incident on Barlow Moor Road in December last year.
In both cases the man was Asian, of fat or large build, had a shaved head with dark eyebrows and an English accent.
An image of the man has been released by police who are urging anyone with information to contact them.
In the September incident, police called to Atwood Road just after 0420 BST found a student who had been subjected to a serious sexual assault and raped.
The earlier attack happened when the teenager had been out for the night with friends on 12 December 2009.
In the early hours of the morning she got into what she thought was a taxi outside the Abbey bank in Withington.
Police said the driver spoke to the victim's father on the phone explaining he would drive her home, but instead he drove her to the junction of Cundiff Road and Hardy Lane where he raped her.
Detectives have used new technology to create an animated "evo-fit" of the suspect's face.
The image, designed by scientists at the University of Central Lancashire, expands and contracts the image to help potential witnesses build up a better picture of the offender's face.
Det Ch Insp Peter Marsh, of the major incident team, said: "I want to once again stress that the offender is not specifically targeting students, both attacks have been against lone women walking home very early in the morning in secluded areas.
"That said, there is understandable concern among students so we have recently discussed the matter with the university and the student bodies to provide reassurance.
Students are being advised not to walk home alone but to arrange for a licensed taxi to drop them off at home.
