Suspected double rapist sought in Manchester

Police are increasing their patrols in Manchester city centre after two rapes in three days.

Both victims were attacked in the area around Piccadily Station and police suspect they could be linked.

The latest attack, on a 33-year-old woman, happened on Fairfield Street on Wednesday evening.

A 20-year-old woman was attacked on Wyre Street on Monday and was left with serious injuries.

The descriptions of the offender in both cases is similar. He is described as white, between 20 and 30 years old, 5ft 6in or 5ft 7in tall and spoke with a Manchester accent.

Sex workers

Supt Julian Snowball said: "We cannot formally link the two offences, but at this time I am ruling nothing out.

"There are similarities in the cases that are being investigated."

He added: "The offences happened in areas we know are used by sex workers and we have stepped up patrols.

"We will be speaking with the women in the area to gather intelligence and also work with them to try and maximise their safety."
