Part of the M56 in Greater Manchester and Cheshire is closed again this weekend, as construction work on a new bridge continues.

The Bowdon View Bridge, which links the M56 and the A556 at junction seven, is being pulled down and replaced.

The motorway closed westbound from junction six (Hale Barns) to eight (Bowdon) and eastbound from junction nine (M6) to six on Friday night.

It is due to reopen at 0500 BST on Monday.

The Highways Agency said diversions were in place.

The stretch of motorway will close again next weekend, when the work will be completed.

The work was initially planned to take two weekends but was extended to three after demolition work took longer than expected.

The 39-year-old bridge is being replaced with a new 1,830 tonne one, which has been constructed alongside the motorway.
