A couple were attacked in their Greater Manchester home by a gang who then fled with their luxury watches and cars.

The gang of three or four masked men broke into their house in Aviary Road, Worsley, at 2300 BST on Friday.

A man was hit on the head while his wife was dragged round the house as the robbers stole various items of jewellery, including a Rolex watch.

The couple were shut in a cupboard. When they escaped realised their Audi TT and Audi A5 cars had gone.

'Harrowing ordeal'

The husband needed stitches to his head after the robbery.

Police said the offenders wore masks and gloves and spoke with Liverpool accents.

Det Con Joanna Flynn, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This couple were subjected to a harrowing ordeal which has no doubt left them very upset.

"I want to reassure them and the wider community that we are following a number of inquiries and are confident the public can help us.

"If you saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Aviary Road area then please get in touch."
