Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found stabbed to death on a canal bridge in Greater Manchester.

Police discovered the body of Paul Begley, 43, in Woodend Lane, Hyde, at 0830 GMT on Saturday.

A post-mortem examination revealed that Mr Begley, of Farnworth in Bolton, had suffered multiple knife wounds.

A 38-year-old man and a woman, 31, are being questioned by officers, a police spokesman confirmed.

Police appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Det Supt Paul Rumney, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "We're doing all we can to find who is responsible, but I'm urging the public to help us out.

"People walk their dogs, cycle and jog in the area and I'm appealing to anyone who may have been out on Saturday morning to contact us if they saw anything unusual at all."
