A three-storey block of flats in Greater Manchester was evacuated after a suspected gas explosion.

Emergency services were called to reports of the blast at a flat on Tree Walk in Stretford at about 0830 GMT.

No-one was injured in the blast, which was confined to one flat, and seven people were moved as a precaution.

The area was cordoned off by police while gas engineers found and isolated the leak, said a Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesman.

The service was alerted to the incident by Greater Manchester Police (GMP), the spokesman said.

"On arrival at the incident crews from Sale and Stretford found the incident had caused some damage which was confined to one flat," he added.

"Fortunately nobody had been hurt by the blast."
