Two teenagers died, and a man was left critically injured, after the car they were in hit a tree and smashed into a garden wall in Liverpool.
The silver Peugeot 207 lost control at the junction of the East Lancashire Road and Townsend Avenue in Walton in the early hours.
The two boys, both aged 16 and from Walton, were passengers in the car.
The 21-year-old driver of the car, from Norris Green, is in a critical condition in hospital.
Cause unclear
Merseyside Police are investigating the cause of the crash, which happened at about 0455 GMT.
One boy died at the scene while the other was taken to hospital but later died.
The road was closed while police carried out an examination of the scene.
Police believe the car had been travelling out of Liverpool along Walton Lane and Walton Hall Avenue before the collision.
A spokesman for Merseyside Police said it was not clear at this stage what caused the driver to lose control.
