Manchester detectives hunt student's rapist

A 20-year-old student was raped by a man who dragged her into a car, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have said.

The man had stopped to ask the university student for directions in Granville Road in the Fallowfield area of Manchester at 2300 GMT on Monday.

He abducted the woman and raped her before throwing her out onto Lombard Grove, five minutes later.

A GMP spokesman said the victim had been too traumatised to provide a detailed description of her attacker.

Det Insp Colin Larkin, of South Manchester CID, said: "The victim has been through a horrific and traumatic ordeal and she is currently being supported by specially trained officers."

He said that such incidents were "rare", adding: "I want to reiterate that we are not trying to scare the community, but please ensure you take every step you can to keep yourself safe.

"We have spoken to the university and students union about this incident and asked them to reiterate the message that women, and students in particular, should take care when planning their route home after a night out."
