Police raids on addresses across Greater Manchester have resulted in 10 people being arrested over supplying heroin and cocaine.

More than 80 officers targeted nine homes in Salford, Middleton, Crumpsall and Cheetham Hill earlier.

It was carried out as part of Operation Celeste, which resulted in 19 arrests in October and November 2010.

Police said the arrests were part of a campaign to eradicate class A drugs in Salford's Mandley Park.

'Taking a stand'

All 10 offenders have been held in custody for questioning.

Operation Celeste was set up in April 2010 following concerns from local people the park and surrounding area was being used as a meeting place for drug deals.

Det Insp Caroline Walker said: "Today's operation has been the result of months of work by officers acting on information given to them by people in the area.

"Drugs have a detrimental impact on communities and I would like to thank residents for taking a stand against these criminals and helping us to target those responsible for supplying drugs in the Mandley Park area."
