A woman's body has been discovered after a house fire in Manchester.

Police were called to a property in Grandale Street, Rusholme, at about 1410 BST and discovered the woman, believed to be in her late 40s.

Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue have started a joint investigation.

A police spokesman said it was too early in their inquiries to know if the woman had died in the fire or had died before the blaze broke out.

Grandale Street, off Wilmslow Road, has been closed to traffic.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Greater Manchester Police.
