Elderly couple hurt in Levenshulme gas blast

An elderly couple have been injured in an explosion at a house in Greater Manchester.

Fire crews were called to a semi-detached property in Henderson Street, Levenshulme at 1045 BST.

A woman suffered burns. She and her husband, both in their 80s, have been taken to hospital.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, which sent three crews to the scene, said it had started an investigation.

Incident commander Chris Mycock said: "We are looking at all possibilities.

"It is looking like it was an accident. We are looking at the cooker and pipe work associated with that."
