Man stabbed with broken golf club in Cheetham Hill

A man was stabbed in the neck with a broken golf club in an attack in north Manchester.

Police said the 47-year-old was hit on the arm with the club in Heywood Street, Cheetham Hill, sometime between midnight and 0030 BST on Sunday.

He was attacked with the club again in Bignor Road and he fell to the floor. The club broke and he was stabbed with it through his neck and throat.

The man is in hospital where his condition is serious but stable.

Police are appealing to anyone who has information about what happened to come forward.

Det Sgt Shagufta Khan said: "I understand there will be concerns in the community as a result of this stabbing.

"We will be speaking to the local councillors and community representatives in this area to explain to them exactly what has gone on, and to reassure them we are doing everything we can to find the offender.

"I want to assure people who maybe concerned this is an isolated incident. I also want to appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened to call us so we can find the offender."
