Bolton arsonists set fire to six front doors

Arsonists set fire to six front doors in a Bolton street in the early hours, police have said.

The emergency services were called to Blenheim Road in Breightmet at about 0415 BST.

The arsonists had set fire to pieces of carpet before shoving them through letter boxes.

Police said they believed all the fires were started within minutes of each other and have appealed to any witnesses to contact them.

They have also stepped up patrols in the area.

'Incredibly reckless'

Ch Supt Steve Hartley, Greater Manchester Police's divisional commander for Bolton, said: "The neighbourhood is understandably very concerned about this.

"Thankfully no-one has been injured in any of the incidents, although one person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

"We are fortunate that most of the damage was confined to the front doors of these houses and none of the fires spread much further than that.

"That said, it is only through good fortune that this incredibly reckless act has not had more serious consequences. This appears to be a one-off incident and we are keeping a completely open mind about the motive."
