Man in critical condition after fight in Bury

A man has been left in a critical condition after being assaulted in Bury town centre.

The 27-year-old was found with a serious head injury in Back Bolton Street at 03:50 GMT after reports of a fight.

He was taken to hospital and Greater Manchester Police have described his injuries as "life threatening".

Det Ch Insp Jon Chadwick said CCTV was being checked and he was "confident the offence is caught on camera".

The man's attacker is described as about 6ft tall and of heavy muscular build with shaved hair, which is longer on top.

Taxi rank

He was said to have been wearing a short-sleeved top and light coloured shoes.

Mr Chadwick said he believed "a number of people were in the area at the time as the attack happened outside Bury Kars taxi rank".

"I would urge them to contact police and let us know what happened," he said.

"I would also urge the man responsible to hand himself in.

"I am confident we will identify you sooner rather than later and it would be in your best interests to come forward and tell us your side of the story."
