Delph homes without power because of winds

More than fifty homes in Greater Manchester are still without electricity after strong winds blew down overhead cables.

The power cut happened about 13:30 GMT on Thursday in Delph, near Saddleworth.

A spokesman for Electricity NW said it was not safe to attend on Thursday because of the weather but engineers would be fixing the wires on Friday.

The spokesman added power should be restored to affected residents by 12:00.

A clubhouse at Oldham Rugby Union Club was also blown off at 13:30 and an uprooted tree fell on to a house in Woodheys Drive, Sale.
