A professional footballer has been injured in a car crash in Greater Manchester.

Oldham Athletic's Filipe Morais was taken to hospital with a suspected concussion following the crash.

A police spokesman said it happened at around 12:50 GMT on Sheepfoot Lane, near Oldham's Boundary Park ground and involved two other cars.

The crash ruled the Portuguese forward out of the club's local derby against Rochdale.

The club's manager Paul Dickov said Morais had suffered "quite severe whiplash".

An elderly man was also treated for minor injuries at the scene.
