Injured student Daniel Whiteley regains consciousness

A University of Manchester student found with multiple injuries in a ditch has regained consciousness.

Daniel Whiteley, 19, from Barnsley was found in Platt Fields Park in Manchester on 28 February with multiple injuries to his head and body.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said Mr Whiteley was still in hospital but recovering well and hoped to be discharged in a couple of weeks.

Three people have been charged with attempted murder following the attack.

Michael Brownlie, 26, Nicholas Lindsay, 21, and Katie Mongan, 18, all from Longsight, have been remanded in custody until their next hearing on 28 May at Manchester Crown Court.

Mr Whiteley is a first-year English student at the University of Manchester.
