Gritting lorry driver fails breath test

The driver of a gritting lorry which crashed into a house and overturned in Greater Manchester failed a breath test at the scene, police have said.

The man, who is in his 20s, was left trapped inside the vehicle after it crashed on Broad Lane, Rochdale, at 06:10 GMT on Friday.

He was rescued by firefighters and taken to hospital for treatment.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the man failed a breath test at the scene and it is awaiting further results.

A garden wall was destroyed in the crash which also caused cracks to appear in the walls of the house.

The occupants of the house were asleep at the time and uninjured.
