Ashton-under-Lyne boy critically injured: Two charged

Two people have appeared in court after a two-year-old boy from Greater Manchester sustained serious chest and facial injuries.

A man, 56, and a woman, 34, from Ashton-under-Lyne, appeared at Tameside Magistrates' Court accused of child neglect and causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm.

Police were called to an address in Ashton on Saturday following reports a child had sustained serious injuries.

He is said to be critically ill.

Police said the boy had been taken to Tameside General Hospital when they arrived at the address.

He has since been transferred to Manchester Royal Infirmary.

The couple were remanded in custody and are due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on 24 June.
