Five held after Heywood taxi raid and two men stabbed

Five people have been arrested after two people were stabbed following a taxi robbery.

The taxi driver was robbed at 06:10 BST in Green Lane, Heywood and two men were stabbed shortly afterwards in a disturbance in a nearby house.

Both men were seriously wounded, said Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

Five men have been arrested in connection with the incident - three on suspicion of wounding and two on suspicion of attempted murder.

Insp Gary Hall said police were dealing with two linked incidents which happened in quick succession.

"There was the initial robbery on the taxi driver, in which, thankfully, he wasn't seriously injured, quickly followed by the disturbance in the nearby house," he said.

"It would appear that two men received some nasty stab injuries during this second incident and they are now being treated in hospital."

He added: "At the moment, it is a somewhat confusing picture."
