Two arrests over Manchester firm cyber blackmail attempt

Two Polish men have been arrested at Heathrow Airport by police investigating an attempt to blackmail a Manchester firm with a cyber attack.

One of the company's websites was taken offline after it was flooded with information by the attackers, police said.

The men, in their 30s, were detained at a hotel at the airport on Wednesday.

The investigation involved agencies in the UK, the US and Poland, police said.

Police said they could not confirm the identity of the multi-million pound internet firm which was targeted.

Det Insp Chris Mossop, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "Denial of service attacks have become increasingly common offences in recent years and can have a devastating effect on the victim's online business or presence."
