A 99-year-old woman has been seriously injured by a reversing car in Manchester.

The woman, who had been visiting a post office on Egerton Road South, Chorlton, was hit by the Ford Mondeo on Thursday.

Police said the driver left the scene after going into the post office to ask for an ambulance to be called.

The woman is said to be in a serious but stable condition in hospital. A man, 63, was later held on suspicion of failing to stop after an accident.

He was bailed until October pending further inquiries.
