A Wigan takeaway found to be "infested with rats" has been forced to close.

Krunchy's Chicken and Pizza, on Ormskirk Road, Pemberton, was shut after a visit from Wigan Council environmental health officers.

They found a rat burrow inside the food store room and a dead rat. The council said "foul water" was also leaking into rooms where food was stored.

A Wigan Council spokesman said the conditions inside the takeaway were "completely unacceptable".

He added the site would remain closed while the council worked with the business to "address the issues and improve standards".

The takeaway was also ordered to pay the council about £1,900 in costs.
