A man has been jailed for racially abusing ex-Manchester United footballer Andy Cole on a flight.

Mr Cole was flying from Dublin to Manchester in December when the incident took place.

Lee Byrne, 28, from Dublin, admitted a racially-aggravated public order offence and being drunk on an aircraft.

At Manchester Crown Court, Byrne was jailed for 20 weeks. Gregory Horan, 26, of no fixed address, was jailed for 10 weeks for being drunk on an aircraft.

Mr Cole, 42, is heavily involved with the Kick It Out campaign, which aims to stamp out racist abuse from the stands and in the dressing room.
