A man has died after falling five floors down a lift shaft in Greater Manchester.

Police said the 27-year-old man and a friend were stuck in a lift within a block of flats on Marsden Road, Bolton, on Saturday afternoon.

It is believed the doors of the lift, in Marsden House, may have been forced open and he fell while attempting to climb out.

He was taken to Salford Royal Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Health and Safety Executive said its inquiries were ongoing.
