'Good Samaritans' who helped 1990 Cheshire rape victim in police appeal

Police have asked a pair of "Good Samaritans", who helped a Cheshire rape victim 24 years ago, to come forward.

Detectives have made the appeal because the woman only reported the 1990 incident, which happened in Runcorn when she was 15, earlier this year,

After escaping the scene, a house near Halton Road, she flagged down a car.

Det Insp Clare Coleman believes the vehicle's occupants, who made sure she got back home safely, may have moved away from the area.

She said: "Even though it was a long time ago, I am sure that the couple will still remember picking up a teenage girl who was clearly in a distressed state and certainly remember hearing the shocking revelation that she had been raped.

"I would urge this man and woman to come forward and help us with our investigation."
