A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was stabbed to death at a house in Greater Manchester.

Police were called to Claybank Street, Heywood, at about 17:45 BST on Sunday, following reports two people had been assaulted.

A 52-year-old man was found with stab wounds and later died in hospital. A 37-year-old woman, also at the house, suffered facial injuries.

Police said a 34-year-old man was in custody for questioning.

Greater Manchester Police said it believed the tragic attack was "an isolated incident".

Det Ch Insp John Harris said: "The news a man has been murdered, coupled with the police presence at the address, will most likely cause some concern to residents.

"We will have officers in and around the area should any residents wish to come and talk to us or pass on any information they may have about this terrible incident."
