A £710m gas-fired power station has officially opened.

Irish fuel company ESB built Carrington Power Station, in Trafford, Greater Manchester, on a former coal-fired plant site.

It has been providing energy to more than a million homes and businesses across the region since it became operational in September 2016.

ESB said the official opening, attended by junior energy minister Jesse Norman MP earlier, was a "great day".
