St Helens man cleared of killing seven-month-old baby

A man has been cleared of killing his girlfriend's seven-month-old baby.

David Ward, 22, formerly of Greenfield Road, St Helens, Merseyside, had been accused of shaking the child, Ruby Grace, and damaging her brain.

The child died on 5 May 2009, two days after being taken to Whiston Hospital. A post-mortem examination revealed she had suffered head trauma.

Mr Ward, who had denied manslaughter, was cleared by a jury at Liverpool Crown Court.
