Blackpool Football Club youth coach Gary Parkinson is no longer in a critical condition after he suffered a serious stroke last week.

Mr Parkinson, 42, played for Preston, Burnley and Blackpool, and scored the winning goal in Burnley's division two play-off against Stockport in 1994.

The father-of-three was initially treated at Salford Royal Hospital after suffering the stroke on Thursday.

He was moved to Royal Bolton Hospital, where he remains seriously ill.

A spokesman for Blackpool FC said their thoughts were with his family.

Mr Parkinson, who is originally from Thornaby in North Yorkshire, began his career at Everton in 1985 before moving to Middlesbrough, Bolton Wanderers, then the three Lancashire clubs.
