A 24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of the murder of a man at his Liverpool home has been released on police bail.

Colin Hughes, 42, was found in the back yard of his house in Old Swan on Tuesday. He had head injuries and a stab wound to the chest.

A post-mortem examination revealed he died from the single stab wound.

The suspect, from the Old Swan area, was arrested on Saturday morning but released later.

Emergency services were called to Mr Hughes' Baden Road property at about 0100 BST on 21 September.

He was taken by ambulance to hospital, but later died from his injury.

Detectives described Mr Hughes as a "decent, hard-working family man" who had been preparing to get married.

Det Supt Lol Carr, senior investigating officer, said: "His death will have left a massive hole in the lives of his loves ones and I appeal to anyone with any information about who may have been responsible for his death to come forward."
