Fire breaks out at St Helens scrap wood site

Firefighters are tackling a blaze in a huge pile of scrap timber in St Helens.

The fire broke out at the former Hays Chemicals site on Lancots Lane in Sutton shortly before 1400 BST.

Teams from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were working to get an excavator to dig underneath the rubble to put out the flames on Monday night.

It is the second time a fire has broken out on the site in two weeks, after reclaimed wood caught light there on 13 September.
