Police investigating the attempted abduction of a 13-year-old girl have released an e-fit of the suspect.

The victim was walking along Oakdale Road, Wallasey, when a silver people carrier pulled up alongside her. A man got out and tried to pull her inside the car just before 1900 BST on Friday.

The girl managed to punch the man several times before running home.

Police said she was not injured in the incident but was left very distressed by the ordeal.

'Very rare'

The man is described as being between 20 to 30-years-old, dark skinned or Asian with what is described as a "heavy accent".

He was of medium build with shoulder length dark hair, described as being curly and messy. He had bags under his eyes and heavy eye lids and it is thought that he had a scratch on his cheek.

Det Con Insp Ian Hassall said: "This is a very disturbing incident that has caused a great deal of distress to the girl and her family.

"Thankfully, incidents like this are very rare, however we are concerned about this man's behaviour and we need to trace him as soon as possible."
