Man with burns rescued from flat in Widnes, Cheshire

A man is in a serious condition after being badly burned in a fire at a block of flats in Widnes, Cheshire.

Firefighters were called to St Michael's View and received reports that one person was missing just after midnight on Friday.

They carried him out after finding him in his bedroom. As well as having serious burns he was also suffering the effects of smoke inhalation.

A dog was also rescued in the blaze, a fire service spokesman said.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
