Controlled blast at Wirral recycling centre

Published
A controlled explosion has been carried out at a Wirral recycling centre after fears an incendiary device had been left there.
Police were called to Bidston Recycling Centre just before midday after workers found the device.
The site on Wallasey Bridge Road was evacuated and sealed off and specialist bomb disposal police were called.
The device - an illume mortar, or illumination mortar round - was disposed of in a controlled explosion.
The recycling centre has now re-opened.
