Man hurt in Knowsley Expressway pile-up

A man has been seriously injured in a six-vehicle crash on Merseyside.

The 39-year-old was hurt when two lorries, a van and three cars collided on the Knowsley Expressway in Tarbock Green just after 0930 BST.

Merseyside Police said two people had to be cut free by firefighters and one man was taken to Whiston Hospital with chest injuries.

The road remains closed on the southbound carriageway between Speke Boulevard and Tarbock Island.

Emergency services are at the scene and motorists are being urged to avoid the area due to long delays.
