Merseyside shooting victim 'drove to hospital'

A 25-year-old man is recovering in hospital in Merseyside after being shot in the stomach.

The man has refused to speak to police, but is believed to have driven himself to hospital after suffering the injury.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. The vehicle has been seized for forensic examinations.

Det Ch Supt Tony Doherty, of Merseyside Police, said: "We are working hard to remove guns from our streets and reduce incidents such as this."

He added: "Only last night officers removed two guns from the Wavertree and Fairfield areas following community intelligence.

"At this time, the victim in this incident is not assisting with our inquiries, and that's why we continue to seek assistance from the public."
