Fresh arrest over death of Liverpool student hit by car

A fourth man has been arrested by police investigating the death of a student who was hit by a car in Liverpool city centre.

Andrew Brendan O'Neill, 20, from County Tyrone, died of multiple injuries after the incident in Dale Street in the early hours of Saturday.

Three men have been arrested and two of them have appeared in court charged in connection with the fatal crash.

A 23-year-old man, from Kensington, remains in custody for questioning.

A 19-year-old man has already been charged with aggravated vehicle theft and another man, aged 20, with allowing himself to be carried in a stolen vehicle.

Police are also holding a 21-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident.

Mr O'Neill, who was from Clonoe just outside Coalisland, was a second year student at Liverpool John Moores University.

He was hit near the flyover exit of Dale Street, close to Churchill Way, when the car was driving the wrong way down the road.
