Crashes cause delays for drivers in Cheshire

A series of crashes on the motorway network have caused delays for drivers in the Cheshire area.

Icy conditions led to nine accidents on the M62, M6 and M56 in the Warrington area on Thursday morning.

The Manchester-bound M62 was closed between junction 9 at Winwick and junction 10 at the M6 Croft Interchange, but has since reopened.

A spokesman for the Highways Agency said there were not believed to have been any serious injuries.

A crash on the East Lancs Road closed the road in Haydock between Warrington Road and Golborne Dale Road in both directions.

Six vehicles were involved after a car skidded on the ice.
