Liverpool homes evacuated after tyre stack catches fire

Residents were evacuated from their homes after a stack of tyres caught fire at a garage in Liverpool.

Thirty firefighters tackled the fire at a garage at the Prince Albert pub in Rice Lane, Walton at about 1100 GMT.

A 200m (650 ft) cordon was put in place around the garage, which contained a caravan and three vehicles, due to a thick plume of smoke from the tyres.

Merseyrail trains were prevented from stopping at the Rice Lane station and nearby Hornby Road was closed.
