A man has been shot in the stomach in Liverpool, in the second shooting in the city in less than 12 hours.
The victim, 40, went to hospital at about 0100 GMT on Friday, with a gunshot wound to his stomach. He underwent surgery and is now stable.
Police are now trying to establish where the shooting took place.
A man in his 40s was shot dead in Aigburth at 1840 GMT on Thursday. Police said they are not linking the two incidents at this stage.
Det Ch Insp Lee Turner, from Merseyside Police's Matrix team, said: "At this early stage of the investigation we are trying to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
"Shootings on Merseyside will not be tolerated by Merseyside Police and we will work tirelessly to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
"We ask anyone with any information about this incident to contact us, in confidence, so we can trace the offenders."
Patrols have been stepped up across Liverpool, a police spokeswoman said.
