Detectives are hunting a lone woman who carried out an armed robbery at an off-licence in Warrington.

Police were alerted to the raid at Bargain Booze store on Warrington Lane, Penketh, on Monday evening.

The woman walked into the store with what appeared to be a firearm and demanded cash. She then fled in the direction of the Sportsman's Arms.

Cheshire Police said a 57-year-old female worker was left traumatised by the incident, but otherwise unharmed.

Detectives have released a CCTV image of the suspect in a bid to trace the woman.

"It has not been ascertained at this stage whether the firearm was genuine or imitation," said a spokeswoman.
