Man shot with pellet gun in Runcorn

A 63-year-old man has been shot in the stomach with a pellet gun during an attempted robbery in Cheshire.

The man had left a pub just after 2330 BST on Saturday when he was followed by two men from Lapwing Grove towards Palace Fields Avenue, in Runcorn.

One of the men pointed what appeared to be a black airgun at the man and demanded cash.

When he refused, he shot a pellet into his stomach, leaving him with a red mark and bruising to his stomach.

'Extremely shaken'

The men then ran off into Lapwing Grove.

Police said the man was "extremely shaken" after the attack and have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

One of the offenders is white, about 5ft 9in (1.7m) tall, thin and in his late teens.

He had a slim face, smooth complexion and was wearing a light-coloured long-sleeved hooded top.

The second is described as white, about 5ft 9in tall and with a slightly stockier build than his accomplice.

He is also aged in his late teens and had a round face with a rough complexion, dark, short hair and was wearing dark clothing.
